"Loser" was first released in 1993 as a 12" vinyl single with only 500 copies pressed. It was then re-released in 1994, and became Beck's first top 40 hit single in the UK, peaking at No.15 on the UK Charts in March 1994.
The worldwide success of the song shot Beck into a position of attention, and the media dubbed him the center of the new so-called "slacker" movement.
In total, he had 10 top 40 singles in the UK between 1994 - 2005, with "The New Pollution" being his highest charting single when it reached No.14 in March 1997.
