"Panic" was released as a single by The Smiths in 1986 and eventually went on to peak at No.11 on the UK Charts in August 1986.

The single was voted single of the year in 1986 by the readers of the NME Magazine, and in 2007, the song was also voted the 21st best indie anthem ever by the same magazine.

It was also the first song by The Smiths to feature Craig Gannon.
