"White Lines" was originally released as a single by Grandmaster & Melle Mel in 1983, and eventually peaked at No.7 in the UK Charts in February 1984.
Despite being credited on the single, Grandmaster Flash played no part in the maklng of the record, as he'd left Sugar Hill Records the previous year.
"White Lines" was heavily based around a song called "Cavern" by the band "Liquid Liquid". It was sampled by Melle Mel & Sylvia Robinson and they then added their own lyrics to promote an anti cocaine message.
