"The Prince" was the debut single released by ska/pop band Madness, and was written by the band's saxophonist Lee Thompson.

The single was released in August 1979, and went on to peak at No.16 on the UK Singles Chart in September of the same year.

The song was written as a tribute to Jamaican ska legend Prince Buster who was highly influential on Madness at the time, the band even took their name from one of his songs, "Madness"
