"The Jean Genie" was written by David Bowie and was the lead single from his 1973 album "Aladdin Sane"
Described as the album's pivotal song, it saw Bowie moving into more experimental musical styles. When it was released as a single, it peaked at No.2 in the UK Charts, and in America, it only managed to reach No.71.
There was some controversy in the UK following the song's release as it contained a riff very similar to "Blockbuster" by popular glam band "The Sweet"
