The single was released in America in December 1971, but amazingly never charted on the American Billboard Charts. It peaked at No.4 on the UK Charts in December 1972
Although the song is a protest song about the Vietnam War, it has become a Christmas standard and has appeared on countless Christmas albums since it's initial release.
