"I Heard It Through The Grapevine" was a landmark song in the history of Motown Records.
After radio DJ's pressured Motown to release Marvin Gaye's version as a single, the label finally relented, releasing it in October 1968.
Marvin's version eventually outsold Gladys Knight's version and until The Jackson 5's "I'll Be There" 20 months later, was the biggest hit single of all time on the Motown label.
