The double A-side single of "Strawberry Fields Forever" & "Penny Lane" failed to reach No.1 in the UK charts for the first time since "Love Me Do" in 1962.

It was held at No.2 in 1967 by Engelbert Humperdinck's "Release Me" because the BBC counted the two songs as two individual singles, despite the fact that The Beatles single outsold Humperdinck's by almost 2-1.

"Strawberry Fields Forever" was ranked No.76 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest songs of all time.
