The Drifters were formed by Clyde McPhatter of Billy Ward & His Dominoes in 1953, and were essentially an American Doo Wop/R&B vocal group.
The band were most popular from 1953 to 1976, although several splinter Drifters continue to perform to this day.
"Dance With Me" topped the American Billboard pop chart even though it was only a b-side, in the UK, the single peaked at No.17 in January 1960.
