"Peggy Sue" was written by Buddy Holly, Jerry Allison, and Norman Petty, and was originally recorded and released as a single by Buddy Holly & The Crickets in July 1957.

It was also later released on Buddy Holly's self-titled 1958 album, and is ranked No.194 on the Rolling Stone Magazine's list of the 500 Greatest Songs Of All Time.

The single reached No.6 on the UK Charts in December 1957 and was the first single by Holly to make the top 40 in the UK.
